    About Me

    My photo
    Alan C. Thomas, HMCM/USN, Ret.
I was a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman, who served on active duty from 1967 – 1970. Duty stations included three naval hospitals and overseas assignments aboard the U.S.S. Proteus AS-19, and in the field with a squad of 3rd and 5th detached Marines in Vietnam, during SOG mission "Sunrise" in 1970. Our mission was to to rescue two pilots, who were held in below ground cages by the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) outside a village in Quang Tri Province. Our effort to free those men from captivity failed. Today, the Navy has no record of the 1970 mission to free our POWs. Following my Honorable Discharge from the Navy and completion of a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health degree, I enjoyed a career in the Industrial Hygiene/Environmental Health profession. I retired from my position of Manager, Environmental Health Programs after 20 years of service with The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Today, I promote my memoir of a Navy Corpsman at speaking engagements, book signing events, and on-line at http://alan-c-thomas-published-author.ws with links from facebook and twitter at Alan C. Thomas homepages.
